  Lack of a bar menu (or even something like "a side of fries") made this a lackluster destination to get a drink.
  repeated visits have all been crowd-less with no visible changes to menu or environment.

  I'll preface this poor review by saying two things: 1) I have never given a restaurant less than 3 stars AND 2) I visited this restaurant over the summer and really enjoyed it.
  
  Our recent experience at Blu Mussel was one of the strangest and most frustrating dining experiences we've ever had. After ordering our entrees, our meals arrived with different sides than what was listed in the menu. There was no mention of a substitution by our server beforehand so we asked her to check with the chef. She soon returned with the chef's response: that it was his "prerogative" to use whatever sides were on hand. When we pressed her further to say we would not have ordered these dishes had we known we would be getting something different (fingerling potatoes and green beans instead of yams and broccoli rabe) she offered to have the chef come out to discuss with us. She soon returned with a response that "chef is too busy" and brought us the bill. No empathy and no offer to rectify the mistake. In my view, the chef's actions show that he'd gladly take our $120 (!) but could care less about our experience and satisfaction. In my opinion, this is not a sustainable way to run a restaurant, certainly one charging $30 for an entree. I'm hopeful this experience was an anomaly but nevertheless it provided me with enough reason to not return and will certainly not recommend the restaurant to others.
  
  Bottom line: The Chef could have improved our experience (and thus this review) by stepping outside of the kitchen for 2 minutes to chat with us or even offered us a drink or dessert on the house with a sincere apology. If you want mediocre food and bad service with Boston prices then go here. Otherwise, there are better ways to spend your money.
